Relief for Victims of Hurricane Jeanne—10 counties affected
On October 1, 2004, the Internal Revenue
Service announced special tax relief for Floridians affected
by Hurricane Jeanne. The special tax relief for Floridians
is under the Presidential Disaster Area that was struck by
Hurricane Jeanne. 41 counties were assessed to be under the
Presidential Disaster Area. On 10/12/04 the IRS added another
6 counties taking the total counties eligible for such relief
to 47.
The disaster area consists of 47 counties:
Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Brevard, Charlotte, Citrus, Clay,
Columbia, DeSoto, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Glades,
Hamilton, Hardee, Hendry, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough,
Indian River, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Levy, Madison, Manatee,
Marion, Martin, Nassau, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Palm
Beach, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Putnam, St. Johns, St. Lucie,
Sarasota, Seminole, Sumter, Suwannee, Taylor, Union and Volusia.
Important details to bear in mind when filing your returns
are:
• You can get the Federal Tax Deposit
(FTD) Penalty Waiver for employment and excise tax deposits
by Sept. 24 – Oct. 8, 2004
• From Sept. 24 to Dec. 30, 2004 is the Extension
Period for returns and other tax payments.
• Taxpayers should mark the certain relief-related
forms with the designation - “Hurricane Jeanne”
in red.
